In today’s fast paced, often overwhelming business world, it is becoming increasingly important to maintain a healthy work-life balance. In Massachusetts and across the country employees need time off to mentally recharge and recuperate. However, what happens when an employee returns from a relaxing vacation only to find out that he or she has been fired? This recently happened to a man from another state, and he has now taken legal action to accuse his former employer of wrongful termination.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff returned from a vacation to find out that he had been fired from his position as CEO of a health center. The plaintiff alleges that he was given no reason for his firing and that his three-year contract was terminated without cause. The employer cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for termination, but the plaintiff claims that there were no differences whatsoever and says his job performance was always satisfactory.
The plaintiff, who is African-American, also asserts that racial discrimination could have played a role in his termination. The plaintiff alleges that he was treated differently than his predecessors, who were not minorities. As a result, his former employer could also be facing discrimination charges.
Loss of employment is something that no one wants to face, especially if the loss of employment is without reason or racially motivated. The sudden loss of income is devastating, not only financially but also psychologically. Massachusetts residents who believe they have been a victim of wrongful termination are protected by law. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in much-needed financial relief from any monetary damages sustained as a result of loss of employment.
